Heat Press Instructions for DTF Transfers

Equipment Needed to Get Started:

  • Heat Press Machine
  • DTF Transfer
  • Garment for Application
  • Silicone Upper Platen Cover (Recommended)
  • Thermal Heat Tape (Optional)

Note: These transfers require a heat press. A household iron can work for small designs but results vary.

Step-By-Step Pressing Instructions

Follow these steps to ensure perfect application every time.

1. No Need to Pre-Press or Pre-Iron

Removing moisture and wrinkles from the product is unnecessary with NeoInk Peel Transfers. Only do a pre-press if you prefer.

2. Position Your Design

Position your transfer in the desired location and make sure it is flat before pressing. You can press across seams, for example on 6-panel hats and side seams of t-shirts. Using heat-resistant tape is recommended when pressing on hats. You'll learn when it's needed with experience.

3. Press & Peel After a Few Seconds

Press the transfer at 280°F / 138°C with medium pressure for 8 seconds (first press). It is recommended to test one piece first. Use parchment paper to protect your garment. Wait a few seconds and peel.

4. Final Press & Wash Instructions

Important: After hundreds of wash tests, we have found that a final press is imperative. After the design is transferred, with the film peeled off, cover the design with provided parchment paper and press for 8 seconds. This improves durability and softness while reducing shine.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Even with perfect technique, issues can sometimes arise. Here's what to watch out for.

If your transfer isn't sticking:
  • Lay it back down and press again with added pressure and heat (+15°F).
  • If that doesn't work, increase temperature by increments of 15°F until it transfers correctly.
Remember: Repeated pressing won't damage the transfer.
If your design cracks or peels after washing:
  • Always turn garments inside-out before washing.
  • Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle.
  • Avoid bleach and harsh detergents.
  • Air dry or tumble dry on low heat.
If your transfer moves during application:
  • Use Thermal Heat Tape to secure the transfer.
  • Close the press gently to avoid air movement.
  • Pre-press the garment to create a flat surface.
  • Ensure your work surface is stable.

UV DTF Transfers

No heat press needed - apply in 4 steps:

  1. Clean the surface. Wipe it down with a paper towel and let it dry completely.
  2. Lift the design off the backing. Peel it from the white carrier paper so the design stays on the clear film.
  3. Press it onto the surface. Lay it down and smooth from the centre outward to push out air bubbles.
  4. Peel away the clear film. Pull back slowly at a sharp angle, leaving the design behind.

Note: UV DTF applies to hard, smooth surfaces like glass, tumblers, metal, acrylic and hard plastic - not fabric.
